EVEL KNIEVEL TRAVELLED TO Britain and attempted to jump 13 buses in front of 90,000 people at Wembley Stadium. He crashed and sustained severe injuries. His longest career jump came at Kings Island theme park in Ohio. He jumped 14 buses and attracted his peak television audience. Knievel eventually withdrew from major shows after cancelling an attempt to jump a tankful of live sharks in Chicago after injuring a cameraman during a practice jump.

A SPECTACULAR CRASH at the Daytona 200 threatened to end Barry Sheene’s career, breaking his left thigh, right arm, collarbone and two ribs—he was racing again within seven weeks. When the BBC asked him “What goes though your mind during a crash?” Sheene famously replied: “Your arse, if you’re going fast enough.”
